Where the Boys Aren't: Girls' Beach Getaway

Mission: ESCAPE to the beach in Tulum Work, kid, house, work, kid, house, work, kid, house. Everybody knows that story and everybody needs a getaway sometimes. I had the chance to get outta Dodge last weekend with my dear friend Lisa to visit Heather down in Tulum at the Casa de las Olas and I jumped at the opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I love my kid and my life, but sometimes a girl just needs some girl time and the chances don't come along very often. My first boogie board attempt. Wave... Read more

Odds and Ends

From A Canuck in Cancun, 3 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Summertime and the living is easy. Easy-ish. I like the longer days and the heat (yeah, call me crazy) and seeing friends in Canada and the US wearing shorts and having BBQs in their Facebook albums. School for Max finished on Friday, now it's strictly play time for him. I was tempted to teach him the "No more teachers, no more books" rhyme, but after the "Punch buggy" debacle (broken record chatter from the back seat!), I'll just keep it to myself. While we've been having some behaviour... Read more

Tulum Beach House- Casa de las Olas

From A Canuck in Cancun, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Beach house Tulum, beach house Tulum, beach house Tulum....the words that run through my head every time I check to see if we've won the lottery. While we have yet to win, we were lucky enough to spend a weekend at Casa de las Olas in Tulum to get a taste of what we can look forward to when our numbers do hit.We often get down to the Riviera Maya on the weekends, though usually we'll just spend the day and return home to Cancun in the evening or we'll throw the tent up on the beach and rough... Photos by Max

From A Canuck in Cancun, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Max is growing up, enough so that I feel comfortable letting him use the "big person" camera without me having a panic attack every time he touches it. I decided to take him out for a little photography project in the neighbourhood to see what we could see. I told him to take pictures of whatever he thought was "photo-worthy" (this was quickly followed by a vocabulary lesson on the word "worthy"). Here's what my little guy decided was "worthy" of his lens. These little red flowers are... Read more

Xpu Ha Beach Revisited

From A Canuck in Cancun, 2 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The heat is on in Cancun and you won't be hearing any complaints from me. With the cold, wet winter we had I will take every hot, humid day and revel in my pools of sweat. We embraced the calor yesterday and took a little road trip south to one of our favourite beaches, Xpu Ha. It's a drive of a little over an hour and sadly, Max has now learned the phrase "Are we there yet'" (well, almost, he kept saying "Are we here yet'" to which I replied "Yes, we're here, we can't be anywhere else"). I... Read more

The Continuing Adventures of a Kid In Mexico

From A Canuck in Cancun, 2 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

It's been a while since I've done a Max update, mostly because he is keeping me jumping and constantly in motion, no time to sit down and ponder his developments. Kind of a "can't see the forest for the trees" thing, too close to him to recognize what's changed.I guess the number one piece of news is that we are seeing a child psychologist. A few months ago his teachers expressed some concerns about his behaviour, he wouldn't sit still, wouldn't do the work in class, blah blah blah. They... Read more

Excuses, Excuses

From A Canuck in Cancun, 3 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Argh, I really don't know what's wrong with me lately. I have this huge sense of guilt for not writing for the blog but I can't find motivation for writing! I guess guilt just isn't enough. Since I left my teaching job I have far less time by myself and I think that's a contributing factor to my lack of posting. I used to have 2 to 3 hours a day that were just for me, just for the blog and now I have zero. My "new" job is writing, managing four blogs, 15 Facebook pages and 6 Twitter... Read more

Snorkeling Puerto Morelos

From A Canuck in Cancun, 3 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

This is mostly going to be a picture post, I haven't done one in aeons! Sunday we took my parents to the beach in Puerto Morelos and my dad had a hankering to do some snorkeling. We caught a little panga at a good price and had some of the best snorkeling we've had in a long time. The water was super clear, the sun was shining through and the fish were abundant. Max did the whole two hours with us, his first time really keeping up with a group on a reef snorkel, I was thrilled and so was... Read more
