Tatsu has a girl in his class that he is friends with named Lana. Actually, I have posted her picture on this blog before as well as her older sister, Hawa, who is in Jake's class. Lana has her Birthday close to Tatsu's so Natsuko and Lana's mom had the great idea to go to the preschool and steal the kids away for a fun lunch together. They were both super excited about not only having lunch together but also having half a day of school off. When I came home from work and asked Tatsu about... Read more

Summertime in Gero

From A JapanAmerican Family, 2 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

This weekend we escaped to the mountains of Gifu where my company has a little resort house. We have been there a couple of times before but never have we gone in the summer. Since Gero is known for its hot springs and the weather was quite hot (34 C) we planned to swim in the river. Natsuko has been a bit sick for the past week and was not feeling up to the river so we filled up the big bathtub with lukewarm water and let the kids play in that. After swimming in the tub we sat down to relax... Updated Alien

From A JapanAmerican Family, 5 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

After procrastinating for about a month I decided to finally take an hour and a half off work early and meander on down to the local municipal office to get a new "Foreigner Registration Card". The process was really quite simple and only took about 20 minutes. It would have been faster if I had just signed my name correctly; I'm not used to signing my middle name and once I start with the first I just go with the flow and follow with the last name. A creature of habit. While in the office... Read more

Winding Down

From A JapanAmerican Family, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Every night we try to wind things down by watching some TV or reading a book, anything to attempt to bring the energy down a little. Lately the kids want to go upstairs and hide while one of us parents comes and finds them. This helps to get them to their rooms and also to be quiet. The other night all three of the kids wanted to sit on my lap at the same time. It was a bit crowded but I have to admit it sure felt nice to have all my babies there. Natsuko got a bit jealous and stole Tatsu... Read more

Happy 5th Birthday Tatsuya

From A JapanAmerican Family, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Tatsuya turned 5 this Saturday. He has been asking every day for the last month or so if it was his Birthday, finally we were able to tell him, "yes, today it is". He got spoiled and pampered from morning until night. Starting in the morning I made his requested savory eggs (scrambled eggs with lots of stuff in them). Then we went shopping for some batteries and stuff for the upcoming toys. Next we ate lunch and then opened his presents.Tatsu loved the toys he got from everyone. He has... Read more

Captain Lego

From A JapanAmerican Family, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Tatsu makes these most magnificent creations from legos. There is just one flaw with them; they fall apart at the slightest of touches leaving Tatsu in a wailing heap on the floor. He just keeps putting more legos on in an apparently random order until he achieves his masterpiece. There is no support or consistency. After crying for a few minutes he picks himself up and starts building until it happens all over again. It's a vicious cycle. The mad builder.Seriously, we try to get photos of... Read more

Purble Place

From A JapanAmerican Family, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Tatsu has gotten into the Purble Place games that come stocked on Windows 7. They are really easy to learn and even easier to play, pretty basic stuff; click here, move there. When he starts getting all crazy and out of sorts, I'll have him sit down and play for a little while. He has gotten very good at the game of Concentration.Maika watching Tatsu play Purble Place. Nagara River

From A JapanAmerican Family, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

On Sunday we all loaded into the car and headed up north to Gifu prefecture for a swim in the Nagara River. The river is quite large and the water clear. It is not too swift so swimming with kids can be done. The only problem is that there is no beach, it is all rocks. The day was hot, so hot that you could not walk on the rocks without shoes on. I was the only one who got a bit sunburned after only a couple hours.Swimming in the river. My skin is glowing white.Tatsuya making a crab pose,... Read more

Sato-chan, The Elephant

From A JapanAmerican Family, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

You know those cheesy little merry-go-round things that they have at the entrance to stores' The ones where you pay a buck and it spins around to some song a couple times and that's it' Well, we never let the kids ride one no matter how much the kids may squeak. It is just too much time and, frankly, boring to justify.But....Obaachan (grandma) cannot resist the big puss-in-boots eyes, pouty face performance the kids put on and caves in to their demands. Hey, if she wants to pay and watch... Read more

Summer Fireworks

From A JapanAmerican Family, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

We have been getting quite a collection of fireworks given to us by various people. Every time we go down to Natsuko's parents house we forget to bring them and the evenings just get too busy to commit to any set time. Finally, we sort of spur-of-the-moment decided to quickly do them at the park behind our place. The boys get their pyro DNA from my side that had to be balanced out by the cautious DNA from mom's side. The fireworks were for kids so there weren't any of those cool, dangerous... Read more
