How to be a good ESL teacher

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Discussing my teacher woes in respect to this new class, including my fears of completely messing up and making a complete fool of myself, Ryo asked if I remembered any of my college Japanese teachers.? No.... ? Not a bit... Not even their names or faces.? I do have a kind of fuzzy image of them having been good, and engaging, and that the homework was good. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed classes.? But I don't remember if the teachers ever had a big failure, or ran out of the... Read more

Teaching Japanese college students

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 3 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Today was the first day of school here in Japan.? Their first semester starts in April - so weird to get used to.? Yesterday when I saw the neighbor kids and asked them how old they were, instead of their ages they said 'From tomorrow I'll be in the 4th grade!' and 'I'm starting kindergarten tomorrow!'? It was also the first day of my new job teaching English to college students - 30 to a class.30 to a class! That's like a real class! No messing around!? The most I'd ever... Read more

Cherry blossoms!??

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 2 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

We had cherry blossom viewing parties all planned out weeks in advance last spring, and on the weekend they were in full bloom, we traipsed around Tokyo, from Shinjuku Gyoen to Asakusa to Ueno in the crowds.? This year we're busy with work and things, and barely had time to take pictures.???? It's fun looking at pictures of them - the way the pink contrasts with the blue sky.? Now they're just old and brown, and green leaves unravel in their place.? It's... Read more

Nonsmoking Tokyo Restaurants ????????????????10?

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 3 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

As you probably already know if you're reading this, it's really hard to find a nonsmoking restaurant in Tokyo, and even harder to find one that has vegetarian, or at least pescatarian dishes.? Here are my favorite fall-backs, the places I go when I'm exhausted trying to be spontaneous and find a new place, only to be disappointed when everywhere I go I meet a wall of smoke and a menu full of items that look vegetarian, but actually have all manner of meat hidden in them, which the... Time Flies When You're Living in Tokyo

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Was I this busy before moving here'? I feel like it's sooo much busier in Tokyo than home.? Maybe it's Japan in general -? I seem to remember feeling this way in Nagoya, too.? What is behind this strange phenomenon of weeks, months, years passing by so quickly in this country'- One reason's definitely the long commute.? Where I could drive to work in 15, 20 minutes at every job I'd ever had in the U.S., now it takes me that long just to walk to the station - then I... Read more

Tokyo in the Snow'?????

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Monday was a holiday here in Japan, 'coming-of-age day', where all the 20-year-olds walk around in kimono and take pictures of themselves.? I'm not sure what else exactly goes on, but anything that gives me a day off work I'm all for.? Woke up, wandered out into the living room and opened the curtain to...is that...no....it couldn't be...could it'....rain...turning into snow?!? ?? ?I didn't make it to Asakusa or anywhere fancy to take pictures of the snow, it was too... Skiing @ Mt. Naeba! ??????

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

We went skiing for the first time since moving to Tokyo, in Niigata, a few days after Christmas.? You can find package deals in those tour books outside travel agencies. ? It's a bit more expensive, but if you're not morning people, you can go by shinkansen instead of by bus, then you can choose when to leave - the bullet trains to Niigata leave every 20 minutes, whereas with the bus tour, you usually have to leave at 6 or 7 in the morning.? Plus then you can get an... Read more

Day trip from Tokyo Kawagoe - Little Edo

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

While Christmas in Tokyo was admittedly a letdown, thanks to the big fuss over New Year's, I've had more than two weeks off and am grateful for the break.? With relatives all visited, the house picked up, and no lessons to plan, we set off Sunday morning for Little Edo in Kawagoe, a thirty minute train ride from Tokyo, in Saitama. We ate lunch at an udon shop called ????? advertised on maps of the area they have at the train station, but we had to wait at least 20 minutes after ordering... Top 10 of 2012

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

10. Took a lot of trips - to Wisconsin in January, (it was my 2011 Christmas present from Ryo), San Francisco in March (for Ryo's conference), Kanazawa in June (another conference) and Niigata in December for skiing.? I love taking trips. 9. Did lots of yoga and started learning about meditation - I haven't found a reasonable, friendly, modern and close by yoga studio in Tokyo yet, but I'm still reading Thich Nhat Hanh's books and stuff and trying to be as 'in the moment' as possible.8.... Happy Holidays from Tokyo!

From Amy's Adventure's in Japan, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

My first Christmas in Tokyo!About a month ago I got an awesome care package from my friend, Jon.? It was full of chocolate and fancy spiced bread stuff and art supplies and tea. That was perfect for getting into the holiday spirit.? I mean, there's almost nothing more wonderful than a good care package, right'?Then a few days before Christmas, we checked out the Christmas Market in Roppongi Hills with a friend of mine from work. It was much smaller than I expected, and there... Read more
