After a night which cooled dramatically in the wee hours, we got up early, packed our coffee and rusks, and headed out for a 45km loop drive (all the national parks seem to have 'loops') to see if we might find animals. Night drives are not permitted in the Karoo National Park unless booked in the park's vehicle, with guide, and we hoped, in this inbetween hour, to chance upon a nocturnal animal on its way to bed soon after sunrise. We saw a beautiful dawn as well as zebra, gemsbok, kudu, rhebok... Tourist Visa Fees Increased

From American in Davao, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

For anyone who has been here in the Philippines for a while and still on a tourist visa you know about how the fees at Bureau of Immigration are always changing. When I first moved here, if you waited for your visa extension to be processed, you were charged a 500-peso ?Express Line Fee.? This is something they never asked you if you wanted, they just charged you. Then they made the Express Line fee mandatory. Recently they added a new fee, Express Line for Processing and a Express Fee for... Read more

The 80/20 project #7 - I Give Up

From Badaude, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Sometimes, especially on a Sunday, it's better to wear old favourites. Garments with holes are best. Feels like pyjamas but isn't: isn't even jeans, which I used to wear not only for weekends but all the time during the week. Until recently I didn't own a pair of trousers, just jeans and more jeans: smart jeans and relaxed jeans; faded jeans and raw indigo; shredded and pristine. Now I've kind of given up on them. Skinny has been aroud for too long.... Read more

Dreams, Dogs, Oldies and Omelets

From 1st Mate, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Dreams are coming true, and wishes fulfilled.  There's a little frisson of fear at how fast things are happening, as though I'm being carried along on a rapid current of events I only imagined weeks ago.The little Mexican Army Corps of Engineers is transforming the entire back of the condo, going considerably beyond the modest original plans, and I only hope the final bill won't send me into shock. But I'm determined to get the exterior done, meeting the initial goal of protecting the... Read more

The book's finished, the cover's here, and the release date is...April 3rd. It was going to be March 26th but Apple pushed the iPad release date back so we did the same.Latest thinking is that there will be an ePub version for iPads and other eBook readers; a PDF version for PC/Mac users and an HTML version for the those that don't want PDF.We also have a Kindle version but as Kindles don't display colour I'd like to trial that version on a few people first to see if the book still works with... Last night we had our friends and neighbours Sylvie and Pierre-Yves over for dinner. I am writing this before they arrived, so I can't actually report on the proceedings, but I can tell you what the menu is.I am making snacks to go with a pre-dinner glass of sparkling rosé from the Simoneau vineyard near Saint-Georges-sur-Cher. We are having some of our homegrown hazelnuts and walnuts, lightly Read more
