Bat Cave in Thailand

From My Thai Photo Blog, Yesterday, Read 0 times. Similar articles

This is another photograph from my visit to Wat Tham Khao Mai Ruak. Here you may just be able to make out the interior of a bat cave I tried to explore when I was on the site. It is set on a limestone crag behind the temple.Unfortunately I did not have a flash light with me so it was quite spooky and the only illumination was a hole high in the ceiling of the cave. The shot is taken using flash and if you enlarge it you can see the eyes of the residents shining in the light. When I looked... Read more

Snake Shrine

From My Thai Photo Blog, 2 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I found this snake shrine on a hill above the Buddhist temple Wat Tham Khao Mai Ruak. Now I know the Naga(often depicted as a Cobra) features in Buddhism but here we appear to have a Cobra and two unidentified snakes. So I am a little unsure of the significance. Who knows maybe there are a lot of snakes in the area and the shrine is there to keep them happy.Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you enjoyed this photograph from Thailand. You always find lots of bells and drums around Thai temples. Some, like in the bell tower, Hor Rakang, are used to wake the monks and summon them to prayer.Other bells like the ones in today's photograph, which is taken near a shrine at a Thai temple, are used by the faithful and are struck after making an offering at the shrine.Usually the bells are made from bronze or brass.Thank you for visiting my blog. Kuan Yin Chinese Buddhist Deity Photo/Image

From My Thai Photo Blog, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

There are lots of different influences on Buddhism in Thailand. This photograph of Kuan Yin or Guan Yin is a good example since the statue represents a Chinese Buddhist deity. I found the statue in a Buddhist temple called Wat Tham Khao Mai Luak in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Thailand.Kuan Yin is often said in English to represent the Goddess of Mercy or compassion. Its only the second time I have come across this deity the previous being at the Kuan Yin Shrine in Samut Sakhon.Thank you for... Buddha Statues and Candles Photo/Image

From My Thai Photo Blog, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I found this collection of Buddha statues and candles in a wihan at Wat Tham Khao Mai Luak which is located in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand. The walls of the building were also beautifully painted with various murals depicting the life of the Buddha.I didn't actually count the Buddha statues but there must be at least one hundred.I was quite pleased with the photograph for its colour and composition, it was taken without the use of flash and hand held on a slow shutter speed.... Asian Openbill Close-Up Photo/Image

From My Thai Photo Blog, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

At last I managed to get close to an Asian Openbill and get a half decent photograph. The bird was intent on feeding during a heavy rain storm and didn't notice me straight away. Although he was aware of me when I got this shot because he is looking directly at the camera and he flew off a few moments later.I haven't seen the Asian Openbill group for a few weeks now so I can only guess that they have returned because we are finally getting some rain and there is more food available.Thank you... Garden Fence Lizard Thailand Photo/Image

From My Thai Photo Blog, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I managed to spot this Garden Fence Lizard(Calotes versicolor) in the hedge at one side of my garden here in Thailand. The lizard has the ability to change colour like a Chameleon. When I spotted him/her it was a brownish colour and remained quite still in the green hedge.Perhaps it thought it was well camouflaged! Thank you for visiting my blog. Mirror Image

From My Thai Photo Blog, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Recently I have featured quite a few photographs of some Scaly-Breasted Munia that have been nesting in my garden in Thailand. Here is another shot of two of the juvenile birds who were in the process of fledging. They perched in a low level plant to get their strength up prior to some more flying lessons.I quite like this shot which I hope gives the impression of a mirror image as the two birds face each other with one framed in some old plant material.Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope... Read more

Thai Buddist Monk Receiving Alms

From My Thai Photo Blog, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Each day a Thai Buddhist monk will receive alms in the form of food or other essential things. The alms are either given to the monk as he walks around the area of the temple early in the morning or by parishioners visiting the temple and presenting the gifts to the monk in a wihan or sala used for that purpose. This photograph is taken at Wat Phrathat Phanom Woramahawihan(???????????????????????) which is a temple in the town of That Phanom near the Mekong River in eastern Thailand.Thank you...
