Obasaan English Club

From The Soul of Japan, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

A few times a month I teach an English for Obasaans club around my area.   I get the greatest amount of enjoyment teaching these women, they are so fun.  Once a month we have a pot luck and they each bring their own homemade specialties.   This week was natural foods week, and boy, did they bring some very unique dishes.  The way it works is that I eat while they explain to me how they made  their own dishes in English.   Most of them just sit there... Trip to China ? postponed 10 days

From TravelJapanBlog, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I’m supposed to be in China right now. The only problem is I found out as I was checking in at the Haneda Airport in Tokyo this morning that an American Citizen with a U.S. passport can’t go to China without a visa. Live and learn. I’ve been to 12 countries outside of the USA in the past six years and none of them required a visa for short stays so I didn’t even think to look it up. Also, someone in China handled all of my travel plans so I figured if I needed anything... Read more

From A Life Uncorked, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The past few days have been uneventful. I had the misfortune of being the only one in the family who got food poisoning although we all ate the same damn thing each day (oh, the sheer unfairness of it!), and spent the majority of two days alternating between the bed and the bathroom.Aside from that, we've been doing nothing much else other than driving from one location to another to familiarise ourselves with the city roads. All I can say is, thank God for GPS. We would have been lost more... Read more

My Name Is Not James Dean

From Chiriqui Chatter, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I decided that I should clarify one thing. My name is not James Dean. You would be amazed how many emails I get addresses to Mr. James Dean. I am sure the confusion comes from the photo on the right of the blog with the “About Chiriquí Chatter' information. I have a quote from James Dean. In [...] Read more

Atheists meet Obama

From Want to be a free thinker but a , 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

WASHINGTON ? President Barack Obama has burnished his Christian credentials, courted Jewish support and preached outreach toward Muslims. On Friday, his administration will host a group that fits none of the above: America's nonbelievers. The president isn't expected to make an appearance at the meeting with the Secular Coalition for America or to unveil any new policy as a result of it.Instead, several administration officials will sit down quietly for a morning meeting at the Eisenhower... Janna's Small & Functional Home for 4

From Making This Home, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Someone pinch me because I can’t believe our luck.  Janna and her husband purchased a 600 square foot (55.7 sq meter) one bedroom home in Portland, Oregon 3 1/2 years ago, and today Janna is sharing some of her wisdom in living small and creating a home that works for your family.  Yes – family!   Their home – built in 1925 – was in sad shape when they moved in.  But as you can see below, a lot of love (and a whole lot of hard work) has helped this couple create a home... The Lunar Calendar

From ahoy hanoi, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

This year I noticed something that I didn't last year -- Vietnamese have two calendars in their heads. I always knew that in Vietnam the lunar calendar was important but I didn't realize people actually always knew what day it was on both calendars. Maybe this just happens around Tet but I kept hearing people say, "Today is the X" when it was clearly Y. Finally I saw a calendar on a wall and noticed that both Western and lunar dates were on it. I've seen these calendars many times but never... Read more
