Pham Van Hai Market

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 7 times. Similar articles

Cho Pham Van Hai is one of the biggest markets in the Tan Binh District.  In the last three and a half years I have lived here, I passed by the Pham Van Hai Market many times but I never went inside. Last weekend I finally visited this market for the first time.  It reminded me of the bazaars back in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Prices here were significantly cheaper than at Big C or Co Op Sorry, I thought I took more pictures than the ones below.  I will have to make another visit real... Read more

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 1 times. Similar articles

Today I attended the Saigon Software Freedom Day 2009 organized by the Saigon Linux User Group at the University of Education in District 5.  This is actually my first ever SFD that I attended.   It was nice to meet Prof. Nguyen Thai Son again, a long time advocate of open source and Linux in Saigon.  I made many valuable contacts from this event today including the Ubuntu-VN team. Hats off to An Nguyen, the main organizer for the Saigon SFD and leader of the rejuvenated SaigonLUG for doing an... Read more

Raiding my garbage

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

My neighbor has been annoying me lately.  Normally I leave my garbage out in the evenings like the rest of my neighbors.  When this happens, I know that people will start to go through it.  Unfortunately for me, I have one neighbor who opens all the trash bags, takes what she considers valuable and then leaves the mess for me or my neighbors to clean up. My neighbors do yell at her when they catch her.  Here is the mess she left last week: Related... Read more

Poor Pugs

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Pugs are a very popular breed in Saigon these days.  You see them everywhere.  They are a really cute dog, my neighbor has one and they tried to sell me one of their 4 puppies.  I am a bulldog guy myself. A weekend ago I searched the city for bulldogs.  I did find one near Le Hong Phong street but it was in poor condition.  I even though about rescuing but I will need to get a closer look at it. A couple days ago, I was told I could find a buldog puppy at a breeders home in District 5.  I went... Read more

The 10 Conditions of Love (Rabiya Kadeer)

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Here is a documentary that I do not see making it’s way to Vietnam.  Need to find a way to get a copy back in the US. The 10 Conditions of Love looks at the life and struggle of Uyghur activist Rabiya Kadeer.  I first learned about Rabiya Kadeer when I was a graduate student at Indiana University.  At the time, I learned about her plight and bought some Uyghur Human Rights buttons from the Uyghur Human Rights Coalition.  Rabiya Kadeer was in prison at that time but she was later released... Please show more respect

Last Saturday I had a meeting with my Japanese friend at the Somerset’s Highland’s Coffee shop.  As I was parking my motorbike in the parking lot, a middle age Expat woman was blocking the path between the motorbikes with her motorbike.   As I came in, I had to lean my motorbike to the right against the wall to let her pass me.  I did not have to since she was blocking me, I just did it to be courteous to her. What happened next shocked me, she glared at me and started shaking her... Read more

Traffic Jam near E-Town

Yesterday afternoon, while my friend was test driving a BMW, I took some shots of the traffic jam at the end where both Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa streets meet.  Traffic was flowing smoothly so I guess you it is not a traffic jam here yet… (Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa intersect here) (Cong Hoa street heading towards the airport) (Truong Cbinh street heading towards District 1) Related posts:More Saigon Traffic Jam Photos I took these pictures... Update: Electricty problems with EVN

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 1 times. Similar articles

Well, it has been 16 days since I complained to EVN about the 895 kWh bill for last month.  Two days ago they sent about 3 workers to look at my power meter.  They spent about one hour and a half to see if there was a problem. Before they started the tests, they tried to tell me that since I was not home, the EVN guy who reads the power meters could not write down the correct number.  Nice try but it was not true.  Every month I SMS’d the reading to EVN.   Then they moved to another... Beating the Rain

From SaigonNezumi, 4 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

It is just 5 PM but I could tell from the dark clouds that it would rain within 20 minutes.  My appointment was at 5:30 PM but I decided to see if I could race to my destination and remain dry. I raced down Le Van Sy only to face gridlock after gridlock of slow moving motorobikes.  Can’t they understand that it was able to rain cats and dogs'  “Please get out of my way!” I silently pleaded.  “I do not want to get wet!” Unfortunately nobody seemed to notice, or...
