Since Saturday

From Not From Around Here, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Saturday was one of the most fun days I’ve had in a while, I went up to Norwich for the first time ever, to meet up with another expat blogger. I would describe the entire experience for you, but Rachel has already done such a great job on her blog, so go have a read and enjoy the fab photos and hilarious video at the end. It was an epic day for me, sunshine, wandering around, an American voice, and I learned something important in our geeky “we have so much in common”... Read more

Worship

This is an interior shot of the Theatinerkirche in Odeonsplatz. Initially I was waiting for the two women to move so that I would have an unobstructed shot down the aisle. Then I saw that their pose and the contrast between the darkness of their clothing and the brightness of the church would make a better picture. Read more

Warm up those North Korean collapse contingencies (part one)

From Onemanbandwidth, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Andrei Lankov, associate professor at Kookmin University, is one of the world's leading experts on North Korea (coming from the perspective of a Soviet-trained scholar who spent time studying in Pyongyang).  While there have been many declarations over the past two decades that the Kim Jong-il regime was ready to collapse, Lankov remained sceptical.  His experience with North Korea led him to believe that the regime had too strong a grip on the levers of power and the national psyc... Biscuits and wine

From Dot-Com, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Yesterday was my last day in work before my holidays. While I couldn't wait for the day to end, I struggled to get everything done, and before I knew it I was running for the train. I had places to be.A good while back a friend and myself agreed to get tickets to a cookery demonstration with Nevin Maguire. We'd never heard of him, and while both intending to do some "research", the only thing we knew by the time we arrived in the hotel was that he was famous. The wine reception started at 7pm.... Michaela is home! WHOO HOO

From Happy Adventures, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Michaela has returned!! She had a great time on her trip to England (of course), and I was happy to get her home... especially after a big snow storm delayed their Friday evening flight home by an entire day causing all of them to SUFFER through a night at the Hilton. :) I had left Germany Saturday morning and drove up with Sierra though our own snow storm on our way to get Michaela. I couldn't believe how much snow fell through the night, and right after it was nearly all melted. :( ... Read more

Today's weather; It's overcast time this morning but I've got a hunch feeling that there will be no rain today. Current temp at 7am is 29C.The draught is becoming more and more of a problem. All major hotels on Samui (and smaller ones as well) have water trucks delivering water each day. Now my parents in law, just a few hundred meters down the road don't have any clear water from their well anymore and come to us for a shower. So far our well never run dry, I wonder how we will do this... Read more

Philippines 2010, part 3

From Home and Away, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Just about this time of the year in 2009, I was attending a course on Ageing, Body and the Life Course as a newly accepted PhD student. A British professor came by invitation to talk about the narrative ? the telling of life stories ? as a qualitative research method, and on the first day she asked us to bring an object that told us something about our lives. Instead of bringing a book or a picture, I settled for a map of Metro Manila, which I had given to Marcus on our first year together. It... Read more

Where’s my baby'  The little, helpless one whose eyes can’t focus, who can’t hold his head up, who sleeps 22 hours a day and can’t warp is hand around my index finger'  He was here a few weeks ago. For the first time, Ray rolled himself from his stomach onto his back this morning.  It was quite monumental, and I supposed means that pretty soon we won’t be able to just put him down any old place and not worry about him going anywhere.
