Candy Bar Craving

From A Good Scottish Name, 10 month ago, Read 1 times. Similar articles

Today I had a craving for a candy bar and I had to stop at the grocery store, so I decided to indulge and buy a candy bar treat for myself. Recently I had a meeting with this British lady who lives in the US and she was talking about how she missed WISPA bars by Cadbury. When I saw the Whispas on the shelf today, I thought I would give one a try. A WHISPA candy bar. The inside looks like a lot of little chocolate holes. It is called and "aerated milk chocolate bar" and by looking at the inside... Read more

A Sunday Car Boot Sale

From A Good Scottish Name, 11 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Car "Boot" sales as they are called over here in England happen quite often during the summer months. The best way to describe this scene is to say it is one large garage sale that occurs in an open field. Sellers drive their cars onto the grassy area and open the "boot" of the car (trunk as it is commonly known to Americans) and display their wares for sale out of the back of their car, or on a table right next to their vehicle. Attendees drive their car into the parking area of the field, and... Read more

Anyone for PIMMS'

From A Good Scottish Name, 1 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

A few weeks ago we went over to our British friends' home for a drink in their garden and they offered us a glass of Pimm's. Intrigued, we both opted to try the drink and found it to be delicious! The next day, we were at our local grocery, Sainsbury, to purchase our own bottle to enjoy at home. The following week, this display was up at the Sainsbury....Apparently it is PIMM'S No. 1 season now in England. What is PIMM's, you ask' Well, the version we are enjoying right now is called PIMM's No.... The details

From ahintofpink, 11 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I had a meeting with my principal earlier this week to discuss my contract details and the working situation.Basically, I'm going to be working my ass off. Literally. My contract calls for 22 classes in a 40 hour work week (0830-1630). Given that lunches are included, this is actually a 35 hour work week, and when you factor in meetings and lesson planning, it's really not that much time.BUT, the school I work at has 23 classes of students. So, they've asked me to work 23 classes during school... Read more

A Fresh Start: On Indonesian Politics

From Scribbles of an Indonesian Blogg, 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

It's been quite a while that I haven't written any new post on this blog, especially this front page of my Scribbles. However, I did write some posts in other sections of my blog (on Indian politics and Current Affairs). Having returned to Indonesia in late December 2006, things started to evolve in a very quick pace for me. I decided to settle down into a family life and hence must start playing a new role as a bread winner for my family. New things, new responsibilities that needed swift... Read more

(PICTURE: Letter of thanks from habitat.)Habitat For Humanity's motto is, "A world where everyone has a decent place to live." Thanks to the 70+ donors who sent me money, one family will soon have a better place to live in Vietnam.I say "soon" because the money that everyone donated did not build the house that this and upcoming blogs will be about. The money we collected will go to build a new house for a family in a few months. Habitat will be sending me updates about the family who will... Read more

Tanaka

From ahoy hanoi, 10 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

They took my sunscreen at the Bangkok airport because it was too big (don't worry, mom, not the one I bought in America. One I had bought in Bangkok.). This was unfortunate because Huyen's little bottle of sunscreen ran out after a few days and in case I haven't made this clear, Myanmar is HOT. We went to every pharmacy in Bagan and nobody had sunscreen. It was okay though, we decided to become locals and put on tanaka. One thing you notice right away in Myanmar is that 99% of the women and... Read more

Shwedagon Pagoda

From ahoy hanoi, 11 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

(PICTURE: Shwedagon at night.)As you might have figured out, I was not very impressed with Yangon. However, there was one saving grace to the city -- Shwedagon Pagoda. In a country where there are probably hundreds of thousands of pagodas, Shwedagon surely stands out.Supposedly the stupa was build 2500 years ago, although that is up for debate. Regardless of when it was actually built, it was definitely rebuilt many times in its recent history. Apparently Myanmar is a hot spot for earthquakes... Read more
