Why are these men afraid of me'

I have just received my email version of the ?The Australian Atheist' which of course after 'Duck Monthly' is one of my favorite reads.Over Easter the 2010 Global Atheist Convention was held in Sydney and it caused something of a furore in religious circles. You would think we heathens had crucified Jesus on the Sydney Harbour Bridge by the sheer volume of hate mail from the clergy in general.Archbishop Peter Jensen of Sydney said  - amongst other things:?atheism is not the rational... My little sister and her family are staying in a gite not terribly close by but not too far away.  So we took advantage of their extra bedrooom and paid them a visit. It’s a very nice, spacious gite by the river Lot in the Lot et Garonne region of France.  Although not directly on the river a footpath through rows (or are they groves') of kiwi fruit trees leads to a landing stage with canoes. We had a lovely evening with the family, it was warm and quiet.   The next morning we took a... Read more

Going Back in Time for Snails

From stickyrice, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

It's becoming increasingly difficult to go back to old Hanoi. The horizon is visible in only very few places as the move up to the sky continues. On clear days across West Lake, I used to be able to see unobscured views of the hills, Ba Vi and Tam Dao. Now, residential and commercial high rises impede the view. Pagodas and temples are getting make-overs which leave them the same drab grey of other new structures. Bicycles are being pushed about in the heave of traffic on... Read more

This Will Not Stand

From The Soy Bean, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

My boy dipped his toes in the ocean for the first time tonight, and it wasn’t pretty.  I think he was shaken by the sound of the waves ‘crashing’ on the shore, though they were barely waves, and were hardly crashing.  Still, when you’ve roamed the planet for less than a year and widest expanse of water you’ve encountered is the size of a bathtub, I suppose the ocean can be a bit much.  That said, Ray’s going in; hopefully next week once I finish up classes.... Los Tios Cubanos

Luka was lucky enough to have sus tios Cubanos in Mozambique. We met Mirtha and Yudel a couple of years ago and they have been a constant in Luka's life in Mozambique. This couple is amazing. They volunteer 100% of their time in an orphanage in the outskirts of Maputo and live on donations from the church. They are wonderful with the children and even took in Deborah as their own. Here she is in the photo. She was teeny tiny and very ill when they got her and with them she has flourished and... Read more

Saudi Arabia: Interviews and Upcoming Topics

From American Bedu, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I want to thank EVERYONE for all the great responses in my earlier requests for interviews!  I also need to ask those of you who have yet to receive interview questions from me to forgive me.  I am working on individualized questions for each individual based on location, nationality and situation.  If I am allowed to say so, I believe I have some very interesting interviews forthcoming from Saudis both within and outside the Kingdom and other expatriates too with their unique stories to share... I'm back

From From Australia to Italy, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Finally I am back in Italy, back in Calabria, and back in Malito with my bel fidanzato. I was in Scotland - Dundee to be exact - for a little over 4 weeks and that was enough. I was meant to stay longer, but thankfully there were not many students left so I was able to go home early. Scotland is a beautiful place, so green and clean, but the weather was terrible - it rained every second day and I never went outside without my jacket (which thankfully I took since I only threw it in the suitcase...
