The Melodifestival final 10 are set!

From Hus Langford, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Last night was the second chance show in Örebro. Two acts from each of the previous four shows got to compete one more time for a chance to make it to the final in Stockholm next week. The winners were Jessica Anderson and Pernilla Wahlgren; two more Swedish-sounding names I couldn't imagine! Both had ballads, nothing memorable. There's a list of all the finalists with links to videos on the SVT website. The best of the bunch, in my opinion at least, is Timoteij, four women I'd describe as "Dixie... Read more

VRC Iron Gate & Viminacium

From View from Kew, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The Iron Gate is a series of gorges between Serbia and Romania that used to render passage at this point almost impossible.  Two locks and a dam made passage safer if less dramatic.  After the Roman Emperor Trajan defeated the Dacians almost 2000 years ago, he set down the Tabula Traiana on the Serbian side of the Danube as a marker to commemorate the building of a road into Dacia.  More recently in 2004, sculptors completed a statue of the defeated Dacian King... The library has a new service for locals...FREE tickets to area events! As of yet, there is no restrictions or limits on how many times you can get them - just a first come first serve kind of thing. Every time I go there are always tons of ones left for the Children's Discovery Museum ...so that's mine and Alex's new escape! I take a book and let him go wild, he spends 80% of the time in the sand pit digging for dinosaurs. It's a great day for both of us, he gets to burn off energy and I get... Read more

Old People Walk Slow

From MadridMan.com: BLOG Madrid Spain, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The old phrase holds true, "God love 'em." And I do too, that's the fact, so my patience-level is generally high when I encounter them on the sidewalks and standing in lines. There's no denying it, old people walk slow. But then again, they're never in a hurry, either. Here in Spain you can't help but notice the quantity of octogenarians walking the streets, playing cards in bars, going shopping and out-in-the-public. This sharply contrasts to the older folk in the United States where older... Read more

The Secret Society for Creative Philanthropy

From Servus M, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I read about the Secret Society at the San Francisco Chronicle and it just made me so happy. It's great to hear about people doing good things, just because. A few days ago I met with some friends and we were discussing how in Germany it's not typical to say excuse me, I'm sorry, or to hold the door for others. If you do, it's typically met with a 'nichts (or in Bavaria nix) passiert' - "nothing happened". One person mentioned she thought this summed up the German culture, while someone else... Read more
