Tornado season is upon us

From Brit Gal in the USA, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Last night saw the first tornado of 2010 in Okieland, which was about 60 miles away from us. This morning I had an email from my mum who had seen it on the news in England apparently, and as she knows it was close wanted to check on us! This has tickled us, as it's a small tornado for here and so for it to make the news abroad is funny. But as the Hubster said, a tornado is still a tornado and newsworthy for those who don't get them like we do. Above you can see one of the... Read more

Nuance vs The BBC

From Englishman in New York, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

One story. Two supposedly impartial outlets. Which seems more balanced to you': BBC: US Vice-President Joe Biden has condemned Israel’s approval of 1,600 new homes for ultra-Orthodox Jews in East Jerusalem. Mr Biden, in Israel as part of US attempts to kick-start the peace process, said it was “the kind of step that undermines the trust we need”. Palestinian leaders also condemned the controversial move. Israel insisted it was a procedural step with no connection to Mr... Read more

(Version française plus bas) During my Têt holidays, I decided to visit the center region of Vietnam. I had an amazing time. I left Saigon on a sleeping bus.During the 22 hour long journey to Hoi An I met Yuliya, from Belarus and Sam, from Australia. We got along very well and decided to visit Hoi An together. The streets of Hoi An. Têt lamps. We wandered around, visited old houses and buildings, bought dragon fruits and apples, looked out for conical hats, and ate Hoi An specialities: cao lau... Read more

Fammi una Festa

From Moscerina in Rome, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

What I love about Italy: Feste I don't think the Professor will agree with me about my love for Italian feste. He is the kind of guy who would say they are frivolous or excessive (all the while choosing 7 k turkey for Thanksgiving for dinner for four). I disagree and live by the following rule of thumb: Give me a festa and I'll celebrate. I can make feste from half-birthdays and you-got-dumped days to wisdom-teeth-removal and bad hair days. Italy is strapieno with feast, saint and... Read more

Caramelized Rye Bread Ice Cream (Condensed Milk Ice Cream)

From Nami-nami, 4 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Here's a super-simple ice cream with an Estonian twist. The caramelized rye bread lends a lovely slightly gritty texture (and I mean it in a wholly positive way) to the otherwise super-creamy ice cream, as well as a slightly earthy-tangy flavour. The recipe works both with ice cream machine and without one - I've given instructions for both ways. Most importantly, there's no tricky custard-making bit, as the ice cream uses condensed milk as its base (that also means there's no danger of curdling... Read more

Jump to the full entry & travel map West Lafayette, Indiana, United StatesSo I thought I just needed to make the appointment with my family doctor to check on immunization requirements to go to China, did not know that a "travel clinic" actually existed! So, I am needle phobic (almost passed out on my H1N1 vaccination appointment), but the nurse was very nice and she was actually an alumni from the college I work at (thanked God we... Read more

WHILST out on an early morning walk through a field here in Loubejac (map), I tried to capture the sounds of bird song. Listen!
