Yashar Weekly Photo: Party Time!

From a pink canary's nest, 1 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Yashar had such a wonderful time at a little friend's birthday party on the weekend, which included an Easter egg hunt! I couldn't believe how quickly those little kiddies were at picking up all those eggs!I just realised that I tend to pick the calm, peaceful photos of Yashar as my favourites (I wonder why!)...I mean I could have picked one like this where he looks like he's about to go have a slug of some red cordial, shove some cake all over his face and go rip some dolls heads off... ;) ps.... What it means to be a good mother...

From a pink canary's nest, 1 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

First of all, thank you so much for your emails and comments about what it means to be a good mama. They really meant so much and for me, they articulated many of the thoughts swimming around in my head. I loved how it was put in this comment:"I think that deep down, a good mother is one who makes her children feel loved completely and utterly...is their biggest fan."Also the importance of patience, encouragement and living in the moment were mentioned. I plan to remind myself daily of all... Read more

Making paper flowers for Spring

From a pink canary's nest, 1 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

OK, so I am crazy in love (with the emphasis on crazy) with this weeks project - paper flowers in blossom branches made using the tutorial from Dozi Design. I knew that I had fallen head over heels when Senol caught me staring lovingly at it. Lol!This little crafty project would be great to make with kids -it is so easy. It just involves drawing a swirl on some paper, cutting it out and then rolling up the swirl of paper.Yashar is a little young to be wielding scissors just yet but he had a... Read more

I had been carefully husbanding a row of rosehips, waiting for them to turn this colour before taking their picture by dawn light...they belong to the New Dawn. But this evening I saw that they were gone! About a dozen of them. Bitten off. And then I saw a squirrel walking away over the roof. Walking, not running. I'm kind of glad he was eating them...it seems a natural sort of thing for a Brooklyn-born squirrel to be doing. But no picture. The fennel flowers have almost all set seed and I will... Read more

A Sweet Dream....

This is me sneaking some contraband water during Ramadan, when drinking and eating in public before sunset is illegal. I don't think anyone saw me. Besides the photographer of course. The other day I made an exciting trip to Cozmo to do some grocery shopping. This place has it all; macaroni and cheese, a huge selection of tea, a bakery, tons of pasta, a ton of British food [yay soup in a cup, porridge and vindaloo curry base] I would use my parentheses by the way, if I didn't spill some tea... Lady and the Trade Show

From A Lady in London, 11 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I always thought trade shows were glamorous. Back in my banking days I was chained to my desk all day every day, and the idea of a trade show was somewhat akin to the idea of freedom. People walked around all day, found new ideas for their businesses, did deals, and went to fun parties afterwards. It was work heaven. At least I thought it was. Then in April I went to my first trade show in San Francisco. It was my second day of work at my new job, and I arrived at Moscone Center with great... Read more

Messily American--and Independent

From American Girls in Moscow, 11 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

A Russian friend remarked the other day that the American kids at school often stand out from the Russian ones because of how they're dressed. The next day, a fellow American mom said the same thing. So how do the American kids differ from their peers' I think it all comes down to some messiness, some scruffiness around the edges. Sure, my kids' closet is filled with stylish and adorable clothing. If I picked out their clothing every day, they would look so cute... coordinated... put-together.... Read more
